Inspection Requirements for Forklift Split Rims

2025-08-04

1. Appearance

1.1 Integrity

The forklift split rims must be free of cracks, defects, or deformation, ensuring the complete structural integrity of the rim.

For example, there must be no broken or missing rims, as this will affect the rim's strength and safety.

1.2 Surface Condition

The rim surface must be smooth and free of burrs or sharp edges.

Failure to do so could result in scratches during tire installation or injury to the operator during use.

1.3 Rust Condition

Inspect the rim for significant rust.

Minor rust can be cleaned and continued use; however, if severe rust causes a significant decrease in rim thickness and strength, replacement is necessary.

2. Dimensions

2.1 Diameter

The rim diameter must comply with forklift design requirements and forklift tire specifications, with tolerances within the acceptable range.

For example, if the specified rim is 650 mm, a large deviation in the actual measurement will prevent the tire from being installed correctly or affect driving stability.

2.2 Width

The forklift wheel width must match the forklift tire to ensure secure installation and evenly distributed load.

Rim widths within the same model have a standard range.

2.3 Bolt Hole Size and Position

The bolt hole diameter, depth, and spacing must be accurate.

Ensure that the bolts can be inserted smoothly and tightened to securely connect the rim to the hub or other components.

3. Installation and Connection

3.1 Bolt Connection

The bolts connecting the two halves of a split rim and the rim to the hub must be free of damage, deformation, or thread stripping.

The bolt length and strength must meet requirements. During installation, tighten them but not overtighten to avoid rim deformation or bolt damage.

3.2 Sealing

If a split rim is fitted with a pneumatic forklift tire, ensure the rim is properly sealed to prevent air leakage.

There must be no gaps or cracks at the rim joint or where it contacts the forklift tire.

3.3 Anti-Misoperation Device

Regulation requires that when split rims are equipped with pneumatic tires, the rim bolts must be loosened only after the wheel is removed from the vehicle to prevent accidents caused by misoperation.
