Solid Tire Demand Surges in Central Asia: What Importers Should Check Before Q4 Procurement

Mining output in Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan continues to climb, and with it comes a quieter but significant shift in the region's equipment supply chain: fleet operators are moving from pneumatic to solid tires on loaders, dump trucks and underground equipment.

For tire importers and distributors serving Central Asia, the Q4 procurement season is the window to lock in stock for next year's contracts. Here is what buyers should focus on.

1. Why Solid Tires Fit Central Asian Operating Conditions

Sites in Kazakhstan's Karaganda region and Uzbekistan's Navoi mining belt share three things: sharp rock, long shifts and long distances from service support. A flat pneumatic tire in a remote pit can idle a machine for a full day. Solid tires remove that risk entirely — they cannot go flat, and modern compounds deliver 2 to 4 times the service life of pneumatics in the same application.

For underground LHD fleets and surface loaders, solid OTR tires in sizes such as 17.5-25 and 23.5-25 have become the default specification for many operators.

2. The Compound Question Most Buyers Get Wrong

Not all solid tires are interchangeable. Standard wear-resistant compounds suit paved yards and stable surfaces, while cut-resistant compounds are essential in ore handling and scrap applications where sharp rock shreds softer rubber. Buyers importing for mixed end-users should carry at least two compound grades per popular size — a lesson many first-time importers learn after their first warranty season.

3. Lead Times Are Tightening

As more fleets in the region switch to solid tires, factory order books are filling earlier than in previous years. Importers who placed orders in January for March delivery last cycle found themselves waiting until May. For 2027 contracts, distributors are advised to confirm mold availability and production slots with suppliers before the Chinese New Year shutdown.

4. What to Ask a Supplier Before Committing

B2B buyers evaluating new suppliers should check four things:

- Own molding capacity — suppliers with their own mold plant can produce special sizes and adjust compounds for local conditions, instead of reselling from another factory.

- OEM and private label support — sidewall branding matters for distributors building their own regional brand.

- MOQ flexibility — a minimum order of 20 pieces with mixed loading lets importers test multiple sizes without over-committing capital.

- Press-on-rim supply — pre-mounted wheel assemblies save installation equipment and labor on site.
