To what extent can the solid tire tread be worn out and can no longer be used?

2025-09-09

When the tread of solid tires wears to the following extent, they are usually no longer usable:

1.Reaching the wear mark

- To facilitate users in judging the wear condition of the tires, some solid tires are designed with wear marks. Generally speaking, when the tread of a tire wears down to the same level as the wear mark, it indicates that the tire has reached its service limit and should no longer be used at this point.

2.The remaining depth of the pattern is insufficient

- Indoor environment: If the forklift mainly operates on flat indoor ground (such as the cement or epoxy floor of a warehouse), when the tread depth wears down to less than 3 millimeters, it is necessary to consider replacing the tires. Although the ground condition is good for indoor operations, if the tread pattern is too shallow, it will affect the friction and grip of the tires, and the forklift is prone to skidding when starting, braking and turning, increasing the safety risk.

- Outdoor environment: For forklifts operating on complex outdoor roads (such as construction sites, mines, etc.), due to the poor road conditions, higher requirements are placed on the tread depth of the tires. When the depth of the pattern wears down to less than 4 to 5 millimeters, it should no longer be used. Deeper patterns can offer better drainage performance and grip to cope with muddy, waterlogged and uneven roads outdoors.

3.Other damages occur

- Uneven tread wear: If it is found that the tread on one side or at a certain part of the tire is worn significantly more severely than other parts, showing uneven wear, this may be caused by inaccurate wheel positioning of the forklift, deformation of the wheel hub or long-term overloading, etc. Even if the overall tread depth has not yet reached the above-mentioned limit, uneven wear will cause the structural strength of the tire to be uneven, and it is easy to cause dangers such as blowouts during use. At this time, the tire also needs to be replaced.

- Cracks or damage: Besides tread wear, cracks, cuts or damage on the tire surface are also important signals that the tire needs to be replaced. These damages will weaken the structural integrity of the solid tires, reduce their load-bearing capacity and safety. Especially when cracks or damages penetrate deep into the internal structure of the tire, continued use may cause the tire to suddenly fail, resulting in serious safety accidents.
